Temporary Roadworks

Temporary Roadworks

Temporary signs are mostly used for works on roads and footpaths to warn users of temporary hazardous conditions which could endanger themselves or those working on the road. They also indicate the travel path through, around or past work sites, and in this way, contribute towards the protection of partially completed works from damage.

Guide signs are generally rectangular. Other signs in this classification are used to warn of temporary hazardous conditions which are not related to road works, e.g. sign T1-10A, TRAFFIC HAZARD AHEAD.

Temporary signs are generally rectangular with the long axis horizontal for ease of mounting.

The colour codings used for temporary signs are as follows:

  1. General temporary signs – a yellow retro-reflective background, black border and symbol or legend.
  2. Signs warning of workers – a combination of fluorescent/reflective red or orange background, black symbol and border.
  3. Signs warning of blasting operations – red background, white legend.
